Infamous for her role as Natalie Green, the fresh-faced teen of the s sitcom "The Facts of Life," Mindy Cohn is best known as the bubbly Tootie-sidesick, generally pleasing television audiences with a G-rated joke on her tongue. Now, she's returning to the Hollywood game with a bit more kick and lot more pizzazz, portraying the feisty lead role in "Violet Tendencies," a Casper Andreas-directed film screening at 6 p.m. March 13 at the Burton Theatre as part of the Detroit Independent Film Festival.
Penned by Jesse Archer, "Tendencies" follows the life of a year-old fruit fly named Violet (Cohn) who devotes her nights to queer men, but ultimately flounders when it comes to finding a man of her own. Taking a friend's suggestion, Violet abandons her gay family on a spiritual quest to find true love, sparking hilarity, romance and mayhem as she attempts to change the girl she is to find the man she wants.
Recently, Cohn chatted about her career and shared further insight into the film.
Tell us, career-wise, what have you been up to since leaving "The Facts of Li Recently it was announced that The Facts of Life stars Kim Fields, Mindy Cohn, Lisa Whelchel, and Nancy McKeon are reuniting in Light Up My Christmas airing Dec. 1. Fields, who serves as the film’s executive producer, is behind the reunion of the former kid stars who she calls “her sisters.” I figured that was a sign. I needed to revisit the show we thought was gay. Last year I wrote about the top ten times The Facts of Life was gay, but I only concentrated on the high school years. Since then, my partner Chris sent me the DVDs of the whole series (including tv movies) so I began the great binge from the beginning and finally made it to &#; the college years. Of note: In season five, there was a new character who was upper-middle-class and worshiped Jo, so she tried to be a thug like Jo. While she was in the opening credits (and thus main cast), you&#;d think she&#;d be the gayest thing. Sadly, she was barely used. Operation Marriage represents the perspective of kids of LGBT parents rarely seen in literature or popular media. A film for children worldwide, it’s a universal story of family about LGBT rights, marriage equality, and having an alternative family. While the motion picture aspires to be a piece of art, it is also public service announcement and an historical document of a particular moment in time in world history.
